What’s Hot in Home Decor Trends for 2017?

By ForSaleByOwner

Whether you’re selling your home and looking to stage to maximum advantage, or you’re buying a home and already looking for redecorating inspiration, you have choices galore. Start your research by binge-watching the most popular home design TV shows, get to clipping images from our favorite style magazines, flip through the Pinterest boards that have received the most love… honestly, it may all be a bit too much. But don’t fret. We’re here to cut through all the clutter and show you six home décor trends for 2017 that are guaranteed to catch your eye and stoke your creativity.

Navy blue interiors

Remember when modern décor just meant that everything was its own shade of gray? Happily, your home no longer has to be monochromatic to display a contemporary flair. Navy blue has burst onto the design scene in a big way. Paint, accessories, even furniture — this color isn’t just “in,” it’s versatile as well. Navy can be soothing and set the perfect tone for a master bedroom or dining area. Or it can be bold, especially when paired with complementary accents of orange and fuschia. Navy is an especially popular choice for kitchen cabinets, and, whatever their finish, your pulls will really pop off a deep blue background.

Farmhouse style

Blame Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s hit show Fixer Upper: farmhouse style is everywhere this year. Think shiplap, exposed brick, white subway tile with dark grout, rustic wood accents, repurposed antiques and flea market finds. They may seem like the height of hip, but you can incorporate these elements inexpensively. Focus on a few centerpieces you DIY or find secondhand, like a rewired wrought iron chandelier or reclaimed wood mantel.

Texture, texture, texture

Layers of texture create a cozy, inviting atmosphere in the home. You can mix fabrics — linen and chenille — or materials — suede and wool. One super-simple way to incorporate the layered look (and feel) is to vary the throw pillows you pile on your couch. Experiment with wall and floor coverings, too. Rugs aren’t only meant for walking on!

Climbing plants

In keeping with the “cozy home” vibe, climbing plants are so 2017. Not only does this indoor greenery look lush and beautiful, but the oxygen it pumps out also helps keep your indoor air from growing stale. Pair a climbing plant with a macramé hanger to make your home doubly fashionable. And, in case you’ve got a black thumb, here’s a hint: the ivy-like pothos plant is almost impossible to kill.

Bronze

Classic metals took the design world by storm a few years ago, and this year’s take on that trend is bronze. Warmer than gold and more modest than copper, bronze delivers a touch of class without calling too much attention to itself. You don’t have to replace all the metals in your home to achieve the sophisticated look: a few strategically placed accents can do the trick. (Besides, a blend of metals makes for a timeless look.) Planters, pots, lamps, and accessories are all great places to start bronzing.

Geometrics

Clean, precise lines and geometric arrangements are definitely on the rise in 2017. The visual appeal of these designs translates well, too. Art, wallpaper, light fixtures and knick-knacks alike look great when given this minimalist treatment. Even better, it’s another trend that’s easy to DIY. You can find tons of online tutorials on how to fashion your own geometric terrariums, paint your own geometric masterpieces using acrylics and deck out your tea towels with a geometric print.
