The Hosta House is located in Highland Estates off hwy. 370 and 60th Street where each house and yard is quite different. This unique 1 acre lot is beautified by many mature trees and gardens. Hostas surround each tree and fill in under fences, making mowing easier. Liriope (called monkey grass in the South) line all cemented areas, so there is no edging needed. The house is called a tri-level, but the finished basement makes a fourth level. The basement floor is tiled while the walls are brick and raw stained wood creating a sporty look for a recreation room with a ping-pong/pool table. The finished adjacent room could be a 4th bedroom, office, or weight room as we now use it. An unfinished laundry room with a sink and toilet adjoining it. Moving upstairs to the ground entry level is a wide foyer with a green slate floor extending to the large den area with a wet bar/refrigerator, sun room, and bathroom. One wall is fully bricked around a Lopi wood-burning fireplace insert. Electricity to run the insert fan in case of power outages can be supplied by solar power. Next is a sun room, a bath with a shower, and a rear entrance leading to the terraced garden. Steps rise up to a very large cement swimming pool with a diving board and slide. Toward the back is a barn with 2 large entrances. Originally 2 horses occupied the barn. The other looked like an office. Years ago a lighted tennis court replaced the horses. Back into the house and up 5 steps is the kitchen with its round table and some furniture. The counters and floors as well as the living and dining rooms are covered with a golden marble shade of porcelain tile. This large open L-shaped area has a skylight and fauxed walls. Brass and decorative tiles accent the molding and baseboard area below. Sliding glass doors and a deck open up to the beauty of the back yard. Golden drapes flank the windows to the front view of the prominent maple tree. Carpeted stairs lead to the 3rd level bedrooms and 2 baths. Each bedroom contains a queen or double bed with numerous pieces of furniture. Also around the landscaping are many aronia bushes bearing berries in August. Other food items are comfrey and an apple tree. There are three vegetable garden sites. We believe that there is more oxygen in this area due to the large lots and many trees. The Highland Estates neighborhood is on well water with no chlorine or fluoride added. We have septic tanks. The total 2011 water bill was $205. Friendly neighbors have annual parties. We are flexible and understanding about time and convenience for those wanting to view our home.
