Just seven miles north is the community of Curlew, which has the local fire department and a newly-expanded medical clinic, along with the highly rated K-12 school the very best we have experienced with our kids. The school bus stops on the highway at the end of the road, three miles from the house.
The home is bordered by Colville National Forest, which has miles of forest roads for great trail riding, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. According to people who have lived in the area for decades, some of the best hunting in Ferry County surrounds the property, especially for trophy white-tail deer and bear. Mule deer, turkeys and grouse are also seen regularly around the property, along with coyote and an occasional cougar. To the south, next to the county airport, is Curlew Lake with its boating, fishing, camping and multiple RV parks. The town of Republic is the county seat and has a hospital with emergency room, shopping and services.
