This could be the perfect place If you want a special place away from the stress and strain of life, where you can enjoy the beauty, peace and sounds of nature. This home offers all the benefits of country living -- morning jogs,
sunny days, long walks, steep hikes, evening campfires, and quiet
nights -- off a county-maintained road with small town shopping close
by. The home is adjacent to Colville National Forest, which has miles of
forest road east of the house, and groomed trails for snowmobiles or
cross-country skiing 30 minutes away. The area has big fish, deer, challenging golf, awesome skiing,
limitless sightseeing, walks through history, and Canada's scenic
British Columbia with its hospitality, shopping, and outdoor
opportunities.
Situated in its own valley meadow with seasonal creek on 25 acres, the
spacious 3,250-square-foot custom home has storage and amenities galore.Approach the house up the sculpted concrete walk to a small deck, perfect for potted plants. Enter through a screened porch to a spacious living area with vaulted ceiling. The open living, dining and kitchen areas are perfect for relaxing or entertaining friends; a propane range is located in a large island/buffet/conversation area. A walk-in pantry and extensive custom cabinets and drawers provide a wealth of kitchen and dining room storage. A sunroom off the living area can be another bedroom or guest room, with access to the screened entry porch. These areas are well heated by a modern Amish wood-burning enameled cook stove. Alternatively, use the propane forced-air furnace to heat both floors, very convenient when you need to be away during the winter.
Down the 48-inch-wide hall is a large bedroom with two walk-in closets. Across the hall is a tastefully appointed bathroom with invalid shower and 66-inch claw foot tub. The doors are wide enough to accommodate walkers or wheelchairs. Next is a laundry/storage room with a deep sink, counters, an entire wall of cabinets and a back door. The dryer can be propane or electric. A privately-owned 500-gallon propane tank comes with the property. At the end of the hall is the staircase upstairs and a door to the attached oversize two-car garage, which is insulated and heated. The garage has its own bathroom with shower, work area and workbench, more enclosed storage, and two small cold rooms to store fruits and vegetables.
Two outside storage areas next to the garage and under the roof include a paved parking area for a tractor (available with its implements; price negotiable) and an unpaved area that can store up to 24 cords of firewood. Across from the garage is a separate, uninsulated three-bay garage, each bay measuring 13.5-feet wide by 24-feet deep with concrete floors. A fourth enclosed bay contains a workshop which houses a 10 kilowatt Kubota generator for emergency power for the house. The generator can be started from inside the house with a switch. There are also two 3,750-watt Trace inverters and eight 24-volt batteries; they have not been connected but will remain with the house. Upstairs is a 864-square-foot storage area. The turnaround area between the two garages is paved.
The upper floor of the house could be a completely separate apartment, with a small deck on the north side and a large one on the south side. From the staircase you enter a den or office area which could be converted into a small kitchen -- the plumbing and electrical outlets already exist. Each of the two large bedrooms has a huge walk-in closet. The full bathroom has built-in storage and a skylight. There is a common living/sitting room which is an ideal media room, with space for exercise equipment. An airtight wood stove can comfortably heat the upper floor, or you can use the propane forced air system.
Outside, the grounds are beautifully landscaped with lawns, flower and shrub beds, raised beds, and other plantings. The 14- by 22-foot greenhouse is easily accessed from the back door of the garage. Down the gentle slope from the house are three areas tilled for fruit and vegetable gardening. From June through September luscious strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries are available, along with an abundant array of vegetables and root crops. As fall's gorgeous tints of red and yellow tip the surrounding trees, bumper crops of apples, pears, and plums come from 50 trees in a separate fenced orchard. The house, lawns, gardens, and orchard are all inside a high fence around the meadow and up the hills to keep the local four-legged wildlife out.
Abundant water is available from a 76-foot deep well producing 30 gallons a minute. It pumps into two 1,200-gallon storage tanks elevated up the hill to provide gravity flow to the house and garden areas. The water quality is excellent, with a hardness of 12. The well can be run by power from the Public Utility District, the generator, or by hand. A Baker hand pump goes to a 300-gallon storage tank for gravity flow to the house in case of emergency. A 864-square foot, four-bay shed pole building with a gravel floor was made of logs from the local forest; it is outside the fenced area and can be used for storage or possibly a barn. Another old building, with a metal roof, has 384 square feet of storage space. Two other antique structures from former days are nearby.
Just a few miles north is the community of Curlew, with its highly rated K-12 school, along with the local fire department and a newly-expanded medical clinic. To the south, next to the county airport, is Curlew Lake with its boating, fishing, camping and multiple RV parks. The town of Republic is the county seat and has shopping, services, and a hospital with emergency room. Additional shopping is available at Colville (Wal-Mart) and Omak (Wal-Mart, Home Depot). Best of all is the peace, simple beauty and serenity of the surrounding mountains, meadows and forests!
