Great house in Hemingway, SC! Approximately 1 hour from all Grand Strand beaches and 90 minutes from Charleston. Corner lot at intersection of Richardson and McAllister St. Quiet neighborhood. Concrete driveway and privacy fence. Storage building / tool shed. House constructed around 1960, but completely remodeled in 2000/2001 (see details below). Family room (20X20) is carpeted and has REAL wood paneling walls and a gas fireplace. Laundry room and one utility closet are linoleum. Rest of house is beautiful REAL oak hardwood. Formal living room (which is pictured as being used as a master bedroom) is 24X14 with a fireplace, 4 windows, and two entry doors. All rooms in house are spacious (master bath is 19X12, for example).
LANDSCAPING: The borders around the house are well-maintained and are decorated with gorgeous Firepower Nandenas, full Boxwoods, roses, daylilies and various other lilies. There are also Dogwoods, a Cherry tree, Japanese Bloodgood Maples, a Crepe Myrtle, and a River Birch lining the boundaries of the property.
LAYOUT: Technically, the house has two bedrooms and two living rooms. However, as mentioned above, the formal living room is so beautiful it would have been a shame to let it go to waste, and we use it as our master bedroom. We could have added a closet to this room to allow us to call it a third bedroom when listing the house for sale, but the room really is too pretty to disturb. Instead, we added a second closet in one of the other two bedrooms. The spacious rooms made this no problem at all.
REMODELING (2000/2001): New carpet, new roof, installed central HVAC, refinished hardwood floors, replacement of all appliances (which are included in this home sale), interior and exterior painting, storm windows, shutters. Wiring: new weatherhead, service entrance, meter base, breaker panels (interior and exterior), and all interior circuits. Plumbing: new pipe all the way to the meter, new water heater, new hose bibs, all new interior plumbing. The attic was also floored (partially) for added storage space, and attic insulation was greatly improved.
AVERAGE UTILITIES: Power: $200 per month, Water/Sewer/Sanitation: $55 per month, Gas: $250 per year (just gas logs, everything else is electric), Taxes: $850 per year (town plus county), Telecommunications: will be up to next owner (Time Warner and Verizon are both attached to house).
Why are we leaving if the house is so great? When my wife and I married, we were traveling in two directions to work. Hemingway was about halfway between my wife’s job and mine. However, my wife has a different job now, and it’s near mine. For this reason, we have decided to build near our jobs.
