Ten years ago the Johnson/Beck house was moved from within the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore into the village of Empire.  The house was set on a new foundation and a new timber frame porch was added on the east side.  Plumbing, wiring, insulation and a zoned hot water heating system were installed at that time.   Some interior walls feature new true pigmented plaster.  The exterior wood trim and clapboard siding has been lovingly restored and painted.  The walk-out basement is currently used as an office, complete with its separate glass door entry, infloor radiant heat, kitchenette and bathroom.  The house has great fung-shui.  The east half is the original 1890's portion of the house. The west half was built in the 1920's.

The house has hardwood maple floors.  The windows are mostly original single pane units.

The beach is a short walk west, the National Park is 2 blocks south.
