IVA'S DREAM

"You've got to have a dream. If you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?"

(Happy Talk, from South Pacific) When Don and I retired, we dreamed of a home with a river view

Four years later, driving around with my dream buried deep in my heart, I saw the "For Sale" sign

that led me to our dream home. From the upper deck, spread out as far as I could see in both

directions, was "My Dream", the beautiful White River. The home has been a perfect fit, and the

views never stop--from sunrises to sunset, watching an angler reel in a big one, or catching a

canoe racer skimming past. Wildlife abounds. Don likes to watch for deer in the pasture across

the river. One evening he counted 41 before dark. There is a little red fox I've seen several early

mornings from my kitchen window. Birds are everywhere, from bald eagles and their young to the

tiny wren that built her nest just outside the sliding glass door to the downstairs suite. There is

always a breeze from the river to cool the deck and patio in the summer, and you can enjoy all

four seasons. Clouds float in and out of the nearby mountains. The island to the right looks like a

giant sugar cookie when dusted with snow, and the fall colors just cannot be described. All our

friends and family have enjoyed our river bluff home with us over the past 12 years, especially the

"guest suite" downstairs with its separate entrance leading into the large family room, complete

with wet bar (we call it an "ice cream soda bar". Upstairs, there is a living room, kitchen and

garden room surrounded by windows. We've loved every minute of it here, but now it is too much

for us to keep up. Don's health has taken a downturn, and I'm just tired. It's time we move to a

small condo near doctors and hospital, and let someone else discover their dream.
