IRS "First-Time"* Home-Buyer Tax Credit Information
As of 2009, you can get an $8,000 tax credit if you have not owned a home for the past three years, and plan to live in this home for at least the next 3 years. As long as you stay three years, the credit is yours to keep, FREE!
You must close or sign the land contract before November 30th of 2009 (THIS YEAR!!!!)
If you make less than $95,000 (MAGI) per individual or $170,000 couples filing jointly, then you CAN get the credit. If you make more, you cannot get the credit.
As long as you both meet the above criteria, the IRS will let you buy a house with a non-related person (friend, partner, etc.) and split the credit!
To get the credit, use form 5405 when you file your tax return, which must be postmarked by April 15, 2010 for tax year 2009.
