Originally built as an all-electric home, there are two layers of insulation in the attic. Celotex R-7.2 insulation was added under the new vinyl siding. Two-zone, clean, baseboard hot-water heating. The Honeywell thermostat on the main zone can be programmed to automatically turn down the heat at night and then turn it up to warm up your home before you get up in the morning. A Quadra-fire wood stove in the living room saves fuel oil by supplementing heat from the baseboard hot water system. Living room, dining room, and kitchen windows are all double-glazed Marvin brand. Those windows, and the ones in the front and kitchen doors, have Low-E, argon-filled, high-performance glass. A lot of natural light flows through the large kitchen window and the large south-facing living room & dining room windows. They keep this home sunny and bright in winter and cool in summer. A large Norway maple tree in the front yard provides cooling shade in the summer.


The large yard and secluded location would allow for the installation of solar panels or wind to generate energy.


A post lamp by the driveway and exterior lamps on both sides of the front porch door and garage entry door welcome your visitors. Motion-activated lights on the front and rear of the garage automatically reset. Custom-built wood-over-brick porch designed by an architect. The curved, brick sidewalk and porch were professionally built by a master mason. The upper part was built by a master carpenter. The front entry way is well lit by a chandelier and side-light windows either side of the front door. The floor is professionally laid ceramic tile, which matches the tile under and around the living room wood stove. Custom-made oak banisters and carpeted stairs up to main floor and down to family room, utility room, and storage.


A bright, cheery kitchen is lighted by a 500 watt halogen ceiling lamp and two 300 watt lights in the range hood, which has a fan that exhausts smoke and cooking odors to the outside. Magic Chef electric range with oven and separate Magic Chef wall oven. 2007 Kitchen Aide dish washer. In-sink disposal is HP. Four ground fault circuit interrupter outlets above the new (2007) kitchen counter. Plenty of cupboard space plus a broom closet. All three bathrooms have powerful evacuator fans. The two full bathrooms have heat lamps and ground fault interrupter electric outlets. One has a large shower and the other has a tub-shower combination. The master bath has two long towel racks and the main bathroom has four towel racks. There are two electric outlets on each wall in the bedrooms, living room, dining room, & family room Closets have louvered accordion doors for good ventilation and easy access. The large master bedroom closet has a 6 foot 10 inch hanging rod with shelf above. The lower half is lined with cedar. The second bedroom closet has a 10 foot 6 inch hanging rod with shelf above and six built-in storage drawers. The third bedroom closet has removable shelving. Crown molding adds elegance in the living, dining, and all bedrooms.


The large family room on the lower level has paneling on the walls, ceiling tile, and is fully carpeted. This large room is not partitioned and offers a lot of potential for varied use. There is a cable TV outlet and a telephone jack, which can be used for a telephone and/or DSL Internet connection.


Top-quality vinyl on the kitchen and all three bathroom floors. Beautiful, thick, wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the upper level and wall-to-wall carpeting in the family room. We have never worn street shoes inside. Bare floors in the utility and storage rooms on the lower level. The large, two-car attached garage has a mud porch, a workbench with shelves above & below, and many hooks, brackets, and racks for hanging tools, skis, bicycles, etc. Perennials and shrubs are planted in front of this home and there is a beautiful perennial garden around the rustic split-rail fence beside the driveway. There is ample room for a vegetable garden in the large yard.


The December 10th, 2007 issue of US News & World Report rated Montpelier High School 2nd best in the entire nation among open enrollment schools and 5th best in the entire nation overall.
