This house is all that is left of the Buchanan House, originally in Mineola, Texas (about 15 miles SW of Quitman) and over 9,000 square feet. Dr. Buchanan was a local family doctor for many decades in Mineola. After his death, in 1962 the house was sold to two separate buyers. Half of the home was moved to Tyler, Texas, where it later burned, and the other half moved to the Quitman area, where it stands today. All of the original window frames are intact, and a few of the poured glass panes survived. The interior has been updated and renovated, but much of the wood molding is the original, as is the hand carved front door. A custom pine Victorian screen door adorns the main entrance. The home is not listed as a registered historical site because of the additional wing built in the 70's.
