The Cobb-Weber house was built in 1860 by a Methodist MinIster in Arkadelphia, AR, and was moved in 2005 from the campus of Ouachita University to its present location in Old Washington, AR. It was completely restored and redecorated at that time and all new appliances were installed. The two front rooms have 12 ft. ceilings with floor to ceiling windows. I use one of these front rooms as a dining room to accommodate large dining furniture, but it could be used as a third bedroom if desired. There are ceiling fans in five rooms and it is easily cooled by the Trane heat pump system. It is all electric except for the kitchen range, which has natural gas for cooking. The bathroom has the same sink and claw-foot tub as were put in, probably in the late 1800s, when the front porch was added. The washer and dryer are not stackable but are one of a piece, and enclosed in a cabinet in the bathroom. The fretwork on the porch was hand sawed in 2005, using the original "gingerbread" as a template. The roof is a fifty year metal roof. A photo of the house on its original site was probably made in the late 1800s and shows a picket fence around the property. I added a picket fence in 2009 as well as a generous sized storage room and a carport to the back of the house where it does not show from the street. Across the back of the house, the vintage bathroom connects to the mud room, which was orginally the back porch, and that connects to an efficient "Betty Crocker" type kitchen, with cabinets and sink likely from the 30s or 40s. The appliances are 2005 and include a Kitchenaid dishwasher. There are hardwood floors in the front of the house and the floors in the back three rooms of the house are honey-colored finished wood and the counter tops are the same.
Shopping is in Hope, AR, President Clinton's birthplace. Mall shopping, great reataurants and music/theater are all available in Texarkana, approximately 38 miles from here.
The Historic Washington State Park is here and we have literally thousands of visitors coming through the town each year. The location of this house is such that I don't even know they are here, it is so quiet. I hear the occasional musket shot as the touring school children are shown how it all works and I hear the distant sound of the anvil in the morning from the livery stable.
