Offered for your consideration is this charming Victorian-era bungalow in the Mahantango valley of central PA in the small village of Hepler. This residence has historical value to the area with the Hepler family in ownership until 1987. The house was originally built by the Hepler family in the late 1800s as the main residence for the owner and family of the Helper carriage house and hotel which burned down nearly 50 years ago. The area is a laid-back farm community that includes Amish and has an early 20th century feel. It is nice, because it is in the country, but not too far from civilization. It is about 1 hour north of Harrisburg, 35 minutes from Pottsville and Sunbury and 25 minutes from Shamokin, however only 15 minutes from the nearest grocery store located in the next valley. The home with inground lazy-l shaped swimming pool, gazebo and 4 car garage are situated on nearly 2 acres. The exterior of the house still looks the same as it did when built nearly120 years ago retaining all of its original ornate, gingerbread wood trim, lightning rods and weathervane. Included is an original turn-of-the-century postcard of the house. The postcard compliments the minimal changes over the years. The exterior does need fresh paint, however I am reluctant to paint it before selling due to the potential buyers color preferences. The roof was replaced in 2000 with 30 year shingles and the contractor said with the steep pitch of the roof they will probably last twice that long. The interior is approx 2100 square feet , has 1 and 1/2 baths, 11 rooms total and an attic storage room on the same level as the upstairs. There are also many clever storage areas nestled in the eaves of the home which are accessible thru small doors located thru out the upstairs bedrooms and library. There are also storage areas inside the roof gable areas accessible from the loft area in the master bedroom. The first floor has 12' high ceilings with nearly 6' high windows in the living room. I have included many photos to show the character of the house with its ornate oak casing trim, stained glass and impressive period light fixtures. The kitchen and full bathroom have not yet been restored, but are fully-functional. For energy reasons, all windows in the house were replaced with double pane glass replacements designed to match the original look of the house and were custom made to match all original opening sizes. The oil furnace was replaced with a new unit in 2002 and the home electric was updated to 200 amp service in the 1980s. The garage roof was replaced in 1999 as well as the 2 overhead garage doors. In addition to the two overhead doors there are 2 walk-in doors. You can fit up to 4 cars in the building. The decision to sell this one-of-a-kind property has been a hard one, but we have to let it go due to the acquisition of my familys farm. Dont hesitate to call with any further questions.
