I was a new sensation, built at the height of the Roaring Twenties. What a beautiful young thing I was, a Craftsman Cottage, hip and great for the lady that built me in 1928. When she moved in, she tested my floors dancing the Charleston. I matured over the years; I have seen many dawns and many sunsets (I prefer sunsets) and I grew older through rain, wind, storms, snows, and blistering heat. I have also seen many fine autumns and splendid springs. I was home to several different families, some reverent and some not so reverent of me. Twenty odd years ago I was purchased as a money-making scheme; I was to be rented. Little was done for me during that period as profits were all-important. I became an eyesore to my neighbors and my friends felt sorry for me. But I could do nothing. I was a house. And then a miracle happened; a couple who lived nearby bought me. The husband said I needed a makeover and he proceeded to rip out the carpets, wiring, plumbing and cabinets. I was completely stripped to my studs and came back with new doors, hardware, light fixtures, roof, and paint job. I have new walls. They replaced my wiring, my plumbing, and my windows (which are easy clean). I have a modern kitchen with new appliances, gorgeous granite countertops and beautiful new cabinets. I also have a new washer and dryer which are neatly hidden. My central air and heat has two units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I now sport a master bedroom with bath and two bedrooms upstairs which share a bath. I have a beautiful half-bath for guests. At the top of my stairwell is a cozy loft which can be used as a small office or computer room. I have a spacious living area and a dining room painted in the nicest of colors. I even have special faux painting in my hall and half-bath. Did I mention all the closet and storage space I got? Two cement pads were added for guests and my new owners and I was even spruced up with new low maintenance landscaping. I have a wonderful yard for gardening and play. I even have an unfinished basement almost the size of my downstairs area. Oh, and for those floors that had been tested so many years ago, I invite you now, on the refinished surfaces, to try again, if you can, to do the Charleston! I am now the grand old lady, born in 1928, a Craftsman Cottage, but 2006 in all my amenities. I would be perfect for a small family, a great retirement home, or a wonderful getaway for city folks wanting a weekend home with access to Tims Ford Lake, Bear Trace Golf, and great hiking. You need to see me or call at (931) 967-9593. I love my new look and lease on life.
