Our street is one-way and one-block long, so it's very private and very safe. We've had almost no crime on our block in the 6 years we've lived here. There's a playground at one of the street which the city is re-doing with a new rec center this year. We're only 2 blocks from the Ga Ave/Petworth Metro. It's 20 minutes door-to-door to downtown on the Metro from our house. There's a Safeway (also being redone this year), CVS, Yes Organic grocer, branches of the post office and library nearby, as well as Thai, Vietnamese, Salvadoran, Mexican, Scandinavian, and wood-fired pizza restaurants. The Columbia Heights Metro is 8 blocks away, with banks, dry cleaners, a Giant, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshall's, STaples, Best Buy. and several restaurants. Several popular pubs, nightclubs are in the neighborhood, as well as a wine bar. I am a cookbook author and our house is ideal for entertaining. We've had as many as 50 people at once.
