Historic Greek Revival home located in the quaint Village of Montour Falls. This beautiful, well-cared for and updated home features...
Our home is in a lovely neighborhood with both young and mature families. Rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad, its walls have held many fascinating happenings since its beginning as the family home for one of Schuyler County's most prominent early citizens, Dr. Nelson Winton and his wife Lucy Goodrich, granddaughter of Charles Goodrich, the founder of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Winton was one of the first doctors in the town and the first president of Schuyler County Medical Society. He worked for the advancement of Montour Falls, then known as Havana, alongside another of its famous residents, Charles Cook, founder of Cook Academy, which is situated on the adjacent property to our home. Dr. Winton served as a surgeon during the Civil War, and his extended efforts during the Battle of Antietam exhausted him and led to his death soon after.
This home was previously a bed & breakfast for a few years, and could easily be converted back to a B&B with owners' quarters in the back of the house. It is in an excellent location for a B&B, as the area is a popular tourist destination for NASCAR, wineries, and the Finger Lakes. This home is located just 4 miles from the village of Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake, and a very short distance from many lovely wineries. It is within very easy commuting distance to Horseheads, Elmira and Corning, as well as Ithaca.
The home is currently tenant-occupied and arrangements will be made for the tenant to show you the home by appointment only. NO AGENTS, PLEASE
