Lake Independence is located in the quaint little town of Big Bay which is 28 miles NW of Marquette Michigan, the largest city in the Upper Peninsula. Lake Independence covers 1,860 acres and is 27 feet above Lake Superior.  It is approximately 30 ft. deep in the center and one mile long by two miles across.

Fishing includes catches of Perch, Walleye, and Northern Pike You will see Ducks, Geese, Loons, Eagle, Deer, Fox and maybe a Moose. You can go Ice Fishing in the winter and trolling or water skiing on the lake in the summer.

Big Bay lies on the west shore of Lake Independence.  It has Grocery Stores, Gas Stations, a Laundromat, Hotel with Bar and Restaurant, a Tavern and Motels. There is a County owned campground with a public beach and boat launch facilities called Perkins Park.  Big Bay also has a public access harbor on Lake Superior with boat launching facilities. Nearby there are many acres of State owned or CFR Land to hunt, hike or go 4-wheeling.  Snowmobile Trails are groomed throughout the area during the winter months.

The cabin is a 1985 custom built 1 story Chalet (1,110 sq.ft). It has 6 rooms with 3 bedrooms and 1 full bath (wired and plumed for a washer & dryer). An oversized patio door leads out to the 24 x 16 large front deck. The cabin is adequately insulated for year round living, has forced air propane gas heating, central air conditioning, a drilled well, septic system, electricity, and phone service. Interior walls are all tongue & groove cedar boards ranging in width from 4 to 10 staggered symmetrically.  Wojan triple pane, low-E glass windows and patio doors are installed throughout the cabin.  The cabin has a concrete block foundation, vertical T-111 wood siding, and an asphalt shingle roof.   

The lot is rectangular.  603 (E) x 100 (N) x 552.5 (W) x 104(S, Lake Frontage).  The surface road to the lot entrance is plowed in winter by full-time area residents. There is a road into the property and stairs to the sandy beach lake frontage. There is a 16 x 12 screen house overlooking Lake Independence.  This lot contains hundreds of century old trees including Oak, Maple, and Birch.

An adjacent empty lot is also available.  The lot is rectangular and approximately 1.2 acres.  552 (E) x 100 (N) x 522 (W) x 104.5(S, Lake Frontage).  There is a road into the property, a drilled well, and stairs to the sandy beach lake frontage.  This lot also contains hundreds of century old Oak, Maple, and Birch trees.  (Vacant Lot $200,000).
