Grapeland is a small community within Houston County, Texas. With a lot of history in the county, it is not difficult to find places to explore and visit. Cattle and horse ranches, farming areas that grow watermelons, peanuts, annual crops, hay,logging, and business' that are suppliers for these related industries give opportunities for employment. Vulcraft Plant, division of Nucor is here. Grapeland is located in East Texas, "The Piney Woods", between Crockett and Palestine and half way between Houston and Dallas. Boating, camping, fishing, hunting provide many recreational opportunities. Rodeos, livestock shows, and all kinds of festivals in Houston County and East Texas provide for good family entertainment. Summers can be a little warm to hot but the winters are oo-so mild. We never rule out a brief snowstorm so do not get rid of the warm weather gear.
From the house, one can walk to the Post Office, bank, cafes, and the beautifully restored church that is now the Library. The high school is also two blocks away and for the younger ones, the school bus stops in front of the house.
