Stroll down to the beautiful secluded lake through perennial gardens or into wooded areas. You can putter in your own attached greenhouse, horse barn or heated workshop. Entertain family and friends in spacious comfort. Or maybe youd like to take a sauna, soak in the Jacuzzi, relax on the deck, or watch a movie in the soundproofed audio/video room. Now imagine no monthly electric bill and no winter heating bill. Comfort, energy efficiency and energy independence were watchwords throughout constructing our second off-grid home, which, if you prefer, we can hook up to the grid for no additional cost. 5-7 bedrooms, 3 baths (soon 6), almost 5000 square inside, but lets look at the lake: Swim at our sand beach, or fish in the 20-acre lake, most times having it all to yourself (No public access, only one other full time resident). Jacks Lake is the highest in the area and has many natural springs, even in this dry spell, which has many other lakes down several feet, Jacks lake is only down a few inches. The lake survey shows two pockets of 50+ depth, and being upstream means not having to deal with run-off that turns other lakes green in the summer. Theres a small airport in Bloomer, about 15 miles from here. Were about 2 hours from the Twin Cities area, 42 miles from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The home is license-ready as a Bed and Breakfast. Some of the other amenities: infloor radiant heat, hardwood floors with tung oil finish, marble or ceramic floors in kitchens/baths/laundry, Lots of built in book cases, window seats with great views of the lake, central vacuum, pantry, root cellar, raised garden beds, bearing fruit trees (3 apple, 2 pear) snow melt in the sidewalks and driveway. Entire one acre is fenced to keep the deer out (no sharing the perennials with em!). Included: washer/dryer, two ranges (one commercial), dish washer, all stained glass light fixtures, a 500 gallon LP tank (owning your own tank allows you to purchase fuel cheaper), LPG refrigerator, LPG chest freezer, and an iron filter that doesnt use salt. We have been off grid for over 25 years and put all the good ideas into this home so it produces most of its own heat and electricity. The cost of back-up fuels is very moderate: There are several inexpensive sources of firewood, so if you use the outside wood boiler there is no cost for back-up heat. We do have a high-efficiency gas boiler and a space heater should you not want to burn wood. There is 200 gallons of diesel, which should take care of your back up electricity for at least 10 years. Which leaves LP, we use about 250 gallons a year. The main structure was built 1988-89, B&B rooms finished 1992, shop-garage 1997, new wind system and 600 watts more in PVs 1998, second floor east remodeled and spa 2002,new back-up co-generator and batteries 2003.
