We designed and had this house built in Foothills Pointe Residential subdivision in 1999. We wanted a house with master bedroom and an office on the main living level, an open aspect in the living room, dining room and kitchen areas that welcomed in the outside, a bedecked house for outdoor living and dining, and lastly, guest accommodations for visiting family and friends. We wanted to be on the water with our own dock so we built the house as far down the hill as possible. The cove with its 80+ degree water in the hot summer months has become our favorite swimming hole. In 2011 we swam from the end of May through mid-September. Some years our swimming days extend into early October. We run down to the docks each afternoon in the summer and swim across the cove or up and down the shoreline, then climb out, uncork the wine and revel in the beauty of unspoiled woods and sparkling clear water, and ponder... "Where in the world can we go next?" because from our dock we can go anywhere in the world by boat. We've already traveled most of Eastern North Americas rivers. Across the cove from our dock is TVA recreation land that will never see a house or dock. Access to a foot path created by WATeR, a group of volunteers which include trail builders, is on East Coast Tellico Parkway along the water's edge and on Connaster Road adjacent to the pasture of belted cows. Another attraction of this property is the mesophytic forest, undisturbed for over a hundred years. This community green space, which spans the area from our lots to the waterline, was established by the developers of Foothills Pointe, as a woodland park to be preserved for all Foothills Pointe residents to enjoy. As such, it is natural, unspoiled and unused, yet available to all, but especially to us who perceive it to be our own private sanctuary. The Owners Association has allowed us to build paths through it so that we have easy access to our deeded dock that comes with these lots. The dock is cooperatively owned and maintained by the adjacent lot owners. The preserve, or green space, holds a variety of old growth trees, shrubs and forbs. Among the hardwoods are hickory, white and black oak, beech, maples (both sugar and red), ironwood and ash. In the spring and summer the forest floor is carpeted with hepatica, May apples, spring beauty, dwarf iris and a plethora of ferns. Flowering dogwood and red bud add to the beauty of spring. The paths to the docks have been created largely by us, contriving a fall line path with water bars or steps, and a longer, more meditative path traversing the hill. Even though we are seniors, we have never felt that we could not walk the path because it was too strenuous. If needed, two resting places are along the way. Its conceivable that the next owner may want to use an all-terrain vehicle for getting to and fro, but walking allows for a closer walk with nature. A space in the basement will accommodate such a vehicle, and with some widening of the path, using the traversing course, a motorized means may be possible. Keeping in mind the neighbors and communitys sense of sanctuary, this must be done respectfully in order to preserve the sanctity of the land. The crowning joy, we brought a lawnmower here from our previous home, and haven't used it once in Tennessee. Nature rules. We leave this property only because our children and grandchildren are growing up in Colorado and were growing old without them. It's time to move on, but rest assured, this is a lovely home in a beautiful setting in a community of good friends and neighbors. We're waiting for your call.
