Lovely Colonial style home

Rare, Quaint, Colonial home, located 30 miles south of Montgomery, AL, 18 miles north of Luverne and 29 miles west of Troy. The house was built by Dr. S. E. Jordan in the late 1800s, year unknown. 2400 sq. ft. is an estimate. The ceilings are 13 feet 7 inches high. There are three bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry, large hall, closed in back porch, ample closet space, quilt closet and one and one half baths. There is a porch across the front of the house and a screen porch on the north side. Dr. S. E. Jordan was a brother of Prof. Jordan of Highland Home College. The college was in operation in the late 1800s and early 1900s, closing about 1915/16. The picture was made about ten years ago, before the chimneys were removed. The picket fence is no longer there. Out buildings include a barn, old smoke house, original doctors office and a double garage. The property has highway frontage and the lot is 3+ acres. Highland Home High and elementary schools are only about 200 yards north of the house. The town has a bank, Dollar Store, Post Office, Church of Christ, Highland Home Baptist Church, propane gas company, service stations, two restaurants, Subway and grocery stores. Rocky Mount Cemetery is located in the town and is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area.
