What is the success rate in selling “For Sale By Owner”?  

Because we're not real estate agents and don't charge a commission we are legally prohibited from taking part in the actual sales transaction of any of the property advertised on our site, which makes it difficult for us to track how many of our properties sell and how quickly. How do I place an ad on ForSaleByOwner.com?  

If you would like to place your listing by phone you can contact us at 888-FOR-SALE (367-7253) between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm Central Time, Monday through Friday.

Steps to Place an Ad Online

  1. Click Sell Your Home at the top of any page or simply click here.
  2. Enter your zip code and click Begin.
  3. A list of packages available in your area will appear. Click Select below the name of the package you would like to purchase.
  4. Complete the listing form. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of the information you would like to list in your ad, you can edit your listing as many times as you would like at no additional charge.
  5. Click Preview Ad to see a sample of your listing. Or, click Checkout to pay and activate your listing. The preview will include a filler photo. You will be able to upload photos of your property after you have activated your listing.
  6. On the secure payment page you will be asked to enter your credit card information and agree to the Terms and Conditions. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Please make sure to verify your shipping information on this page, as well.
  7. Click Purchase to complete your purchase and activate your ad.
  8. When your transaction is complete you will be shown your receipt. Please print your receipt for your records.
  9. Your listing is now active and viewable by potential buyers! You can now login to manage your listing and upload photos.

We have several package options available, including a Monthly Plan that automatically bills your credit card every 30 days, and several flat-fee options that will allow you to keep your listing up until it sells. We also have a few Features available that automatically bill as well, when purchased separately of a plan.

Plans and Features that Automatically Rebill

The Monthly Plan automatically rebills $89.95 every 30 days until you cancel*. If you are not on the Monthly Plan you will not be automatically rebilled unless you purchase one of the upgrades below.

The Featured Home service automatically rebills $49.95 every 30 days until cancelled*. If your package included Featured Home, you will not automatically renew and will expire at the end of the 30 days period. This feature will only automatically renew if purchased as an upgrade.

* Please note: If you have purchased a plan or feature that rebills it is your responsibility to cancel your account or feature at least one day before your next billing date to avoid automatic rebilling.

What does the Sign Package include?  

When you choose a package that includes ForSaleByOwner.com’s sign package you will receive one 24" x 18" Yard Sign with heavy-duty metal stand and a Weather-Proof Brochure Dispenser, so that you can provide potential buyers with property information flyers. You can upgrade to MLS from any plan for $399*. You can also purchase any feature available on our site at the a la carte price. Available features include distribution to our affiliate sites, unlimited photos, Featured Home, and Video Tour.

I purchased a package that includes signs, when are they delivered?  

Sign packages are shipped via FedEx Ground Service and should arrive approximately five to eight business days after purchase. Please allow for longer shipping times if your signs are being shipped to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, or Canada.

What types of properties can be sold “For Sale By Owner”?  

Our site is for "For Sale By Owner" properties of all types! You can sell land, a vacation home or even commercial property. When you create your ad you can choose the property type that best describes your property from our list of common property types. Buyers can then find you property by searching for all listings in your area or by searching for a specific property type.

Can I pay with a check or money order? Can I pay in installments?  

We encourage all of our customers to submit their payment online using their credit card because it is the most safe and efficient method. Our credit card payment page is secure, which can be verified by the lock symbol in the bottom right corner of your browser and the web address beginning with "https" (the "s" stands for secure). However, if you would rather pay using a check or money order, you may do so*.

Yes! Even if an ad is never activated it remains in our database for six months. To activate, simply login to your account and click the banner containing your property address. Or, you can Contact Support for assistance. A Customer Support Representative will locate your ad and assist you in activating it.

I started an ad but did not finish it. Can I retrieve my information?  

Don’t worry! If you entered your e-mail address and password, your information has most likely been saved in our system. To retrieve your ad, simply login to your account and click the banner containing your property address. Or, you can Contact Support for assistance. A Customer Support Representative will locate your ad or assist you in creating a new one.

Do you offer discounts for listing in volume?

I received an error when I tried to activate my ad, what should I do?  

There are several reasons that you may have received an error message. Please read below for information about the most common error messages and how to resolve the issue or you may Contact Support for assistance.

Page Expired or Page Not Found: These messages generally occur when your internet service was disconnected during the ad creation process or if you clicked your browser’s back button and your browser had not stored the page. You should check to make sure that your computer is connected to the internet before proceeding. To retrieve your ad, simply login to your account and click the banner containing your property address. Or, you can Contact Support for assistance. A Customer Support Representative will locate your ad or assist you in creating a new one.

Card Declined: This error message can occur for several reasons. You may have received this message because your credit card number, expiration date, card verification code, or billing address were entered incorrectly. This message also occurs when your credit card account does not have sufficient funds available or your bank suspects the charge as fraudulent. You should check with your bank to verify that your account is not on hold due to insufficient funds or suspicion of fraud. To try your card again or enter a new card, simply login to your account and click the banner containing your property address. Or, you can Contact Support for assistance.
